Singapore had experienced an excellent run of year on year growth at sixteen percent as of August 2016 hitting with a likelihood of sixteen million tourists. Moving forward into year 2017, tourist growth number will be moderately on an average of two and the half percent or in actual number of about sixteen million and seven hundred thousand having taking into consideration of fewer events such as the Singapore Airshow. One observation is that the month on month tourist arrival growth number has its rate tapering off from about thirteen percent in the first half of 2016 to estimated number of five percent in the July to August 2016 timeframe. Another observation is the number of tourists coming from China is still experiencing a healthy record number of eighteen percent year on year in August 2016 reaching a record high three hundred and fifteen thousand and five hundred in the month of August 2016.
The efforts by Singapore Tourism Board to attract more Chinese tourists as first time visitors are seeing some fruitful results with these first time visitors coming from the second and third tier cities and such good efforts by the Singapore Tourism Board will continue to yield fruitful results for Singapore.
With the possible increase of good tourist numbers and the growth of such number in the future, there is conscientious effort to increase the airport handling capacity especially so with the Changi Airport Terminal Four being scheduled to be fully operational in the first half of 2017. This will add into the overall capacity of current sixteen million another sixteen million or an estimated twenty four percent increase.
